\n The birth of a legend <\/h2>\n

The legend of the Titanic was born in a London mansion on a summer\u2019s night in 1907<\/strong>. It was then that Lord James Pirrie, of the shipyard Harland and Wolf<\/strong>, and J. Bruce Ismay, managing director of the shipping company White Star Line<\/strong>, began planning the construction of the world\u2019s three largest and grandest ships<\/strong>: the Olympic, the Titanic and the Gigantic (renamed the Britannic in the wake of the tragedy of the Titanic).<\/p>

Ismay and Pirrie\u2019s ships would even have a third class section for travellers. At the same time, they would also boast unimaginable luxury<\/strong>, a first in the history of transatlantic steamers. The ship\u2019s interiors would be able to compete with and even comfortably outclass the most exclusive hotels and restaurants. What\u2019s more, they would be so safe that they would come to be declared \u201cpractically unsinkable\u201d<\/strong>, thanks to a new system of watertight doors.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

La construcci\u00f3n del RMS Titanic comenz\u00f3 el 31 de mayo de 1909 y pronto, incluso antes de zarpar, comenz\u00f3 a convertirse en leyenda.<\/p>

Among other features, the Titanic promised luxuries unknown to many of her passengers, even in their homes, such as electric lights and heating in all cabins.<\/p>

Regardless, the ceremonies many had expected to mark the launch of the Titanic on 31 May 1911 would never take place. It was, after all, the second ship in the series. Despite the day being a public holiday, the Titanic had been overshadowed by her sister ship. The most distinguished guests were invited to lunch and then dinner.
